Zakopane Junior World Championships 2021 Cancelled, FIS Looks For Alternatives

Newsfeed
" The Polish Ski Association requested FIS to postpone the Nordic JWSC 2021 in Zakopane to 2022, due to stricter national health regulations. FIS is committed to find alternative solutions in order to ensure JWSC competitions in the upcoming season 2020/21 " reads the international federation's latest press release. The Polish meet-up was in trouble from the start, location changed several times - and is now officially gone from the 2021 roster. Will the FIS be able to find a replacement on such a short notice? We think so - the Juniors lacks the most complicated part: broadcast television with its very specific production requests. Without television to worry about any reasonably large xcski place could step in & save the show. Whether anyone shall be willing i these crazy…

This Is What Will Happen To World Cup This Season

Bold headline, we know. For the last few weeks we kept on asking that question to various people in the know. Here's what we found out. None of this is directly attributed as none of our sources was willing to go on record - so, it's up to you whether you elect to see it as a figment of our imagination ( it isn't ) - The fate of the FIS World Cup 2020/2021 shall be finally, irrevocably decided on October 9th during the (online as it looks) meeting of the FIS Council. The Council is an august body running the whole International Federation . It's not to be mixed with separate committees - Vegard Ulvang, the head of the xcskiing committee, for instance, is not a member of the…

FIS Skiweltcup Dresden : Show Will Go On!

The international ski season still looks ...how shall we put it? Iffy? But that doesn't mean it won't happen at all. Skiweltcup Dresden looks set to host the world's best for the fourth time in a row despite all the current upheavals. We talk to the Dresden's competition spokeswoman Daniela Möckel who explains what the optimism is based on: [caption id="attachment_17039" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Daniela Möckel with the last season's Team Sprint winners[/caption] The International Ski Federation and the German national ski association, DSV, aim to hold a normal sport winter including the well-known World Cup events. This also includes the FIS Ski World Cup Dresden on December 19 and 20. As an organization team, we are currently actively planning the event, which will then take place on the 4th Advent…

Skiing Of Tomorrow: Indoor, With Wall Projection Panels Instead Of Dreary Looking Walls

We have two revelations to make: A - in the foreseeable future most of cross country skiing will move indoors. Yes, indoors - into those purpose-built ski tunnels. If you're optimistic enough to think otherwise - or lucky enough to live in certain areas in the mountains - our compliments. The rest of the humanity, spurred by the (correct) assumption that cross country skiing is the next-to-none cardiovascular and strength-building activity, will have to practice it indoors. B - skiing in tunnels as a way of receiving pleasure currently sucks. First ski tunnels were built far away from big cities but close to traditional training centers: Vuokatti, Torsby and Oberhof all fit that description. Practical? Check! Convenient? Depends on your idea of convenient, but generally no. No more. Toksovo is…

That Day In Davos: Kalla vs 300HP SUV

...that day in 2017 when we somehow missed Charlotte Kalla on the ski tracks and had to chase then-double Olympic champion through half of Davos to take pictures - any pictures of her ??. Not sure why Charlotte, one the biggest stars on the circuit , was not chaperoned/ driven as per usual by some team staff member and chaos to run to her hotel instead. It must have been a show: a trim & fit skier running along the streers closely followed by a pitch-black SUV with two rather burly looking bearded men with large cameras. Even seen-it-all locals ( we are in Davos, Switzerland, remember?) were looking with some interest. Must have thought a scene from James Bond 007 is being filmed or something. At the end even…
