Lillehammer World Cup Stage’ 2020 Cancelled

Newsfeed
Rain or sunshine, one FIS World Cup stage normally guaranteed proper funding is the one in Lillehammer, on a legendary Birkebeineren Ski Stadium. It's not for nothing exceedingly rare skiathlon competitions are held there - what's overwhelming expense/ effort for other venues is nothing out of ordinary for the Norwegian hosts. Therefore in these times of financial crisis and uncertainty Lillehammer was a sure bet to hold its races in December. Alas, that was until Norway's Minister of Justice Monica Mæland have announced the governorment's decision this week: foreigners' entry ban to the country until January 1- nd no exception to athletes. Which means FIS now has to find a new host to arrange the competitions on December 5-6, 2020. It looks like Prémanon and Nove Mesto that were supposed…

Skier And Skin Impurities . Candid Talk About Long Battle, Won

Anna Zherebyateva is a trailblazer. She opted to speak about things others don't. In that conservative world of cross country skiing you often enough hear athletes talking about that last race final climb or ski glide or any such subjects. Which is probably of interest to some audience - no need to be dismissive about that. However, the skiing is a part of the larger world. And in that larger world the XXI century gave rise to influencers. It ain't easy to be one if you are a skier. Pro-influencers can concentrate on the their looks - athletes are also expected to train hard. Wind, cold, constant change of climate and diet - welcome to the world of pro-skier! You are constantly in focus of video and photo cameras. Which…

Johaug Nominated For National Award

Newsfeed
Therese Johaug was just nominated for Egebergs Ærespris which is a prize awarded to Norwegian athletes who excel in more than one sport, according to TV2 Norway's ski expert Petter Skinstad. No need to remind you how many medals she won in cross country skiing. But last year she also won the Norwegian national championship in track & field. In 10000m. Running in street shoes rather than spikes. Now let the internet holywar begin regarding eligibility and/ or morality of the message here. Would be accurate to say that in Norway hardly anybody considers Johaug a conscious doper in her past - and the rest of the world can keep its opinions to itself. Adidas Signs Frida Karlsson. Why Is That Reason To Celebrate

Adidas Signs Frida Karlsson. Why Is That Reason To Celebrate

Leaders, Money & Finance, Newsfeed
Frida Karlsson just became a brand ambassador for Adidas - and that's a big deal. A few years ago sportswear & equipment giant from Herzogenaurach made a fateful decision to exit winter sports ( domestic German teams are excluded, temporarily so from what we understand). Fateful for the winter sports - when one of the world biggest companies, the one constantly looking for expansion, decides there is no market in xcskiing (or biathlon for that matter) - that's a clear sign that things are not quite right , that the market niche is shrinking so fast that it's not worth the effort. One could huff and puff over how unfair the world is, but when the majors who had used to care ( remember Adidas ski? Nike ski boots??) slowly…

Natalia Nepryaeva: Sometimes Feel Like Turning Around And Whacking Particularly Annoying Ones

We love it when in interviews top skiers instead of prowessing some internal kumbaya between all stakeholders, actually don't hold their tongues. Enter Natalya Nepryaeva. In conversation with Sportbox.ru the leader of the Russian tea had this to say (among the other things, clearly). "...When I train in the forest, I always do so with earphones. Can't stand when people I don't know try to engage me in conversation, tell me what their impressions of my performance were and so on. After Tour de Ski this year some " veterans of skiing " who I never met before wanted to engage me in conversation on the tracks as if we were to be best friends. And I was thinking " Please leave me do my job! I'm not coming to…
