Alexander Legkov Talks Pre-race Sex

Newsfeed
Finally somebody in the know had to answer the question the good skiing folks really want to know the answer to. In interview with Sport Express newspaper Alexander Legkov was asked about how long elite skiers abstain from certain bed activities ahead of important race. Elite male skiers that is. "The notion is, guys have to stay away from sex for like 3 days ahead of competition. I broke that notion: did just that then went and won a World Cup stage the next day. Sure, if you spent half a night doing cavorting in bed the lack of sleep won't help. Otherwise pre-race sex is healthy and those who say otherwise don't know what they are talking about " Source: https://youtu.be/5cIhe5QbU6k

Where Are You, Ski Groupies?!

Where Are You, Ski Groupies?!

Newsfeed, Travel & Mass Sport
The sport of cross-country skiing desperately needs..no, not the snow - that too, but there are ways of getting the tracks done even when the Nature is unwilling. What cross-country skiing needs is a shift in culture where big stars are seen not as home boy/ girl, but a true celebrity with a worldwide appeal & with all the relevant trappings of the status. Groupies! Yep, like in the rock music or ( do we dare say it aloud? ) like in the ski jumping and the biathlon. The people who travel with their heroes for a chance to see them up close and , with any luck, personal. As in " swap a few words" -personal, that is. ...October would be a good time to start. In Ramsau/ on…

Where Is FIS Nordic Junior/ U23 Going To Be Held After All?

Newsfeed
Yesterday we reported that the Italian town of Pragelato will replace Zakopane as the venue of one of the most exciting events of the ski season: Nordic Juniors/ U23 World championships. We did so because FIS official website clearly said so last night, quoting decisions of FIS Council. Easy, right? Not so fast! The official press-release that clearly stated that Pragelato, Italy will stage cross-country ski races while Lahti, Finland - the jumping and the Nordic Combined program, seem to have caught relevant folks in Italy by total surprise. No mention of Pragelato on the Italian ski association website as of this writing - moreover, Pragelato/ Lahti was eventually quietly scrubbed off FIS press-release too. Now it simply says "will be finalised in a few weeks ". Of course, we…

Ban On Fluoro Wax Postponed?

Newsfeed, Training & Outfitting
Unpack your HFs: FIS has caved in to pressure and has decided to delay the introduction of blanket" fluoroban" in international competitions, YLE reports quoting Martin Norrgård, Team Finland chief waxing specialist. The ban will be postponed for a year and the decision made public on the FIS Council meeting on October 9th. The Dailyskier.com sources confirm that information with a correction that " one year extension is not final - the technology to test for possible cheating is simply not there yet and who knows how long it would take to develop that to workable level!".

That Day In Davos: Kalla vs 300HP SUV

That Day In Davos: Kalla vs 300HP SUV

Newsfeed
...that day in 2017 when we somehow missed Charlotte Kalla on the ski tracks and had to chase then-double Olympic champion through half of Davos to take pictures - any pictures of her ??. Not sure why Charlotte, one the biggest stars on the circuit , was not chaperoned/ driven as per usual by some team staff member and chaos to run to her hotel instead. It must have been a show: a trim & fit skier running along the streers closely followed by a pitch-black SUV with two rather burly looking bearded men with large cameras. Even seen-it-all locals ( we are in Davos, Switzerland, remember?) were looking with some interest. Must have thought a scene from James Bond 007 is being filmed or something. At the end even…
