NRK’s Nothingburger – Ustiugov Won’t Leave TdS For His Wife’s Labour

NRK has made a good attempt to shock its audience: Sergey Ustiugov won't leave Tour de Ski in the event of his pregnant wife going into labour. Never mind the fact that Elena Soboleva's due date is at least a week past the final race of TdS. Never mind another little caveat that Sergey is now best positioned to win the series and thus take home some 55000 euros in prize money, not a bad paycheck for a crosscountry skier. World Cup Stage Fail?

Planica is a lovely place, but this weekend's World Cup stage was a fail. The weather played its part making skiing look like a form of OCR competition, but even in the best of conditions the very idea of having it where it was held and when it was held raises a lot of questions, among them: - What's the point of having it in the country/ region that is lukewarm to cross country skiing despite very impressive performance by its (mostly female side of) team? Ski jumping events in the area draw tens of thousands of spectators, ditto for alpine skiing - but cross country ones are, sadly, not and shall not in a foreseeable future. - What's the point of scheduling Planica stage two days ahead of Christmas?…

Miracles Do Happen: Linn Svahn’s Incredible World Cup Debut

Just think about it: a 20 year old Linn Svahn debuts at the World Cup. Naturally, she is outside the elite seeded group and thus starts her qualification 34d. With that starting position you are considered very good to make it to Top 30, extremely good if you make it to the Semis. To go on winning the stage is simply unheard of, never happened. It might be a wild speculation at this point in time - but we saw what we saw: While the whole Norwegian Male team traditionally comes to high-altitude Davos at the last moment, an appearance of one its leaders on the stadium caused a minor sensation on Friday. It soon became apparent that Finn Haagen Krogh came to act throughout the whole training session today as a coach or, as some call it, a squire. Rossignol continues to test its newest design of X-IUM Carbon Premium boots that are supposed to replace the current flagship model in shops next year. Unlike Salomon that split its S/LABs offerings with Classic debuting last season and Skate version just spotted , Rossignol looks to be preparing to offer both C and S at the same time. As with all manufacturers of top boots, Rossignol employs an expertise of both in-house specialists - and top World Cup athletes in fine-tuning its next podium weapon.
