I always considered and shall continue to consider her a great athlete but I do have serious questions to people who decide what constitutes doping, under what conditions and what punishment should be meted out." Thus reacted Yelena Vyalbe, the boss of the Russian ski association and, arguably, the most powerful woman in modern skiing. Pro-skiers and ambitious amateurs spend more and more time on snow while preparing for their snow season. We don't have any statistics at hand, but the talk of 100+ days spent on glaciers and inside ski tunnels between April and later October raises no eyebrows nowadays. There is one notable stand-out, however: Yuri Borodavko, the coach of Alex Bolshunov, Natalia Nepryaeva, Denis Spitsov etc. The amount of days his skiers spent on snow so far? Zero. And Now for Something Completely Different" - that might as well be a title for the format of a brand-new mixed gender relay sprint FIS just unveiled: Qualification Teamsprint: Each athlete will individually ski one lap by interval start. The result of the qualification round will be calculated by accumulating the times of both athletes and the 20 best team will be qualified to the Final. During the Finals, each athlete of the team will alternatively ski 6 laps each in the following order Women / Man. The last 2 teams will be eliminated after lap 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.
