“ChaosLoppet” Or Most Impressive Ski Race Of Season, All For Wrong Reasons

Leaders, Newsfeed
Whichever way you slice it, the 15k mass start race at Tour de Ski on Thursday is bound to be remembered and talked about for a long time. For those who missed the “show” from German Oberstdorf: the rain turned the ski track into a distant cousin of skating rink while curvy downhills made the race totally unpredictable affair. Pretty much everyone had a fall, a broken pole or at least a stumble. Even flats were dangerous: no lesser athlete than Heidi Weng fell at the last meters of the distance, seemingly without a reason. Swedish Aftonbladet has summed it all up in one phrase “Chaosloppet The mass start in Oberstdorf was chaotic, crazy with dangerous crashes and incidents” Marcus Hellner ( fell on the distsance) "It was a strange…

You know what a buzzword of the year in international sport is?. It's “Mixed-Gender” Although not yet mixed gender in a true sense( like at the Boston marathon where women and men compete together at the same time & distance), those events have more than just a sporting value Says IOC President Thomas Bach “ Sport is a powerful platform to foster gender equality and empower women and girls both on and off the field of play. This is a key mission of the International Olympic Committee.” Little surprise thеn that soon enough at the Olympics in PyeongChang we will see mixed team events in luge, curling and even alpine skiing to name but a few. Biathlon, xc skiing's richer cousin, would have the mixed relay in Korea - it…

You reckon cross country skiing fans are some cold, reserved, distant bunch - a bit like their beloved sport? Think again then. Meet Lars Erik Saltrø, a home repair contractor from Trondheim in Norway who woke up famous this week after an epic rant he posted on his Facebook page. Over 100.000 people in Norway ( and, presumably Sweden and even Finland) viewed the video in which Lars Erik in rather animated fashion wishes “Merry Christmas to everyone – except two people” Those unfortunate two happened to be some household names in Norway: cross country ski team's manager Vidar Løfshus and team trainer Tor-Arne Hetland. So what's caused the ire of good ole Mr. Saltrø? In his minute long speech that invokes, among other things, names of Pol Pot and…

Klæbo And Bolshunov: Things To Know About Two Brilliant Youngsters

Leaders, Newsfeed
This season started quite unexpectedly for the sport where a lot of athletes peak at around/after the tender age of 30 and it is not unknown to win a major race being close to 40 years of age. Two youngsters not just attacked the podium(s) – they pretty much jumped on it, pushing aside other favorites! First of the two is, of course, a 21 year old John Høsflot Klæbo of Norway with his absolutely phenomenal " six wins in six World Cup races" in season so far. https://www.instagram.com/p/BckgVmFg9mX/? The second might not have such an impressive slew of victories yet – but he's close, very-very close – so much, in fact, that he's running second in the World Cup standings – Alexander Bolshunov of Russia, currently aged 20 (…
