Remember the Summerski Project, a valiant effort by Lars Englund from Bollnäs, Sweden to develop & promote plastic surface that feels exactly like snow? It's moving forward - here you see the first Summerski track taking shape: [caption id="attachment_11550" align="alignnone" width="1280"] the first Summerski track is being built on the property of Bollegården Sports Hotel that Lars Englund owns[/caption] Mr. Englund and his partner & adviser in the project, none else but all-time-great Thomas Wassberg ( yes, the Olympic champion of Lace Placid, Sarajevo and Calgary) hope to have the track finished early summer and already plan the first competition, scheduled for late August. [caption id="attachment_11549" align="alignnone" width="1280"] the track is going to run some 400 meteres on the loop and have a few ( gentle) climbs. The profile actually…

FIS Moves To Level Field, Bans Grinding Machines At Olympics And World Cup

Gear News, Newsfeed
We all know that professional sport is unfair. Technical sport like cross country skiing - double so. For a while now the battle for medals was largely happening between the teams that could afford $500K+ wax trucks Packed to the brim with the latest technology - including, arguably, the most important device of all: portable grinding machines. Well, no more - this week FIS introduces a ban on bringing of grinding machines to the Olympics, the World Championship and the World Cup in attempt to remove at least one important advantage rich teams hitherto had. Remains unclear how compliance with new regulations is going to be checked. On the photo: inside Team Russia truck. Along with the Norwegians, the Swedes etc., the Russians made a good use of portable grinding…

Meet Those Who Go Against The Grain. At Least When It Comes To Choosing Skis

Gear News, Newsfeed
We all know that this century all podiums at the World Cup/World Championships are being won on Fischer, Atomic, Rossignol, Madshus or Salomon ( collectively known as FARMS) skis. But some athletes go against the grain and use even in those august competitions the skis being made by the other manufacturers. One thing strikes us as a bit odd: male skiers are very traditional while female ones are much more open to experimenting. At least when it comes to choosing their skis. That - or we simply missed those daring, ready to try something new men at the World Cup scene. One way or the other, there are only ladies in our image collection today [caption id="attachment_11506" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Say hello to Czech International Sandra Schützová and her distinct red-nosed…

This is the first picture of the new top level boots that we saw being tested in real-life conditions. These carbon-soled beauties were developed by the Russian giant Spine in cooperation with a well-known Scandinavian company. Never heard of Spine? That's because they've largely stayed out of limelight while OEM-producing ski boots for more established ski gear labels. Now the guys from the city of Yaroslavl seem to be ready for a big leap into top-level boots manufacturing. Stay tuned

Customer Could Have Any Color That He Wants So Long As It Is Black….

Gear News, Newsfeed
OK, perhaps not ONLY black but on the whole Henry Ford's famous adage is applicable: that true work of art and engineering, top ski boots could only be ordered in 1 (one) color palette. Only Fischer goes further and offers a grand total of 2 . Why in this day and age, when top sport shoes companies go out of their way offering ever more design variations, top ski boots with a sticker rapidly approaching all-important 1000 euros mark, continue to be offered without a choice to make ? Something to ponder... Oh, and when it comes to ski making - customization is totally possible this days, most manufacturers offer that - even if it's not very typical to order an individual pair ( but do inquire) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxnC0e2oEIx/
