Skiers, July Shirtless Edition

Yeah, because it's very hot to wear anything covering a torso. But also because the elite skiers these days have bodies so well conditioned that Myron of Eleutherae would beg them to pose for one of his sculptures were he to live today. Remember, the ancient Greeks honored the athletic body as a symbol of extreme discipline, tenacity and overall civilizational superiority. Living twenty five centuries after talking about superiority of any kind would be uncouth, of course... So, how about calling them a "source of inspiration / object of emulation" for the rest of us? These are the skiers' bodies honed and shaped by hundreds of hours of extreme physical hard work [caption id="attachment_12019" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Ivan Kirillov[/caption] [caption id="attachment_12017" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Evgeny Belov[/caption] [caption id="attachment_12014" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Andrey…

Johannes Klaebo Shows Rollerskis He Uses In Training – And He Co-Developped Them

First of, we have to admit that we love when skiers present products bearing their names. Virtually any products. One can't hide in the winter forest ignoring the current trends - and those are that great athletes cooperate with equipment manufactures or , indeed, launch their own brands. From Olivier Bernhard/On Running to Michael Jordan/Air Jordan by Nike ( just to name but a few big names) - that's how the world rolls these days. So, when a skier gives her/his name to a product - it's already a win for great sport of skiing ( cue Daehlie, Ulvang and Johaug). ...Here's Part 2 of out conversation with Natalia Nepryaeva. "Conversation" is an instrumental word here - it was part interview, part open talk about the skiing world and those who live & compete in it. As most open conversations, it kinda lacked that structural rigidity expected of formal interview, was going back and forth on several subjects. Anyhow, it was fun and here's a gist of it :   [caption id="attachment_11975" align="alignnone" width="1920"] I live effing fantastic life! ( for the Russian language experts among you -  Natalia is using the word "охренненная" in her native tongue - effing is the best translation we could come up with ))) .  I do like the popularity that comes with victories, I do like that growing attention to myself. And it's not…

Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen is a new head of the Norwegian Sports Association's committee of athletes. With that title, an Olympic champion of PyeongChang 2018 also gins a seat on all-powerful Idrrettsstyret, a steering committee that determines the direction of sport development in the country as we all as financial means to fund that. A 32 year old had a good last season with several podiums at the World Cup and a silver at Worlds in Seefeld - she's been selected for the main national team for 2019/20 and there is no word of career ending .
