https://www.instagram.com/p/BbhTEsnhqA7/ "We never had such a strong line-up of participants like we have this year!", the organizer of the Gällivare Premiere, Stefan Nieminen, can't hide his satisfaction. He – and the team he runs – also look very tired from having to work from 5AM in the morning till 8PM at night to to make the competitions. It's not easy to prepare the tracks fit for Olympic and world champions. https://www.instagram.com/p/BbiJKiCBtJP/ Out of 21.000 cubic meters of farmed snow that were stored from last year only some 14.000 have survived the unsually rainy summe of Swedish Lapland. But that's was just enough to lay crucial parts of the track – and then Mother Nature helped the last moment with a snowfall. The Olympic champions Marcus Hellner of Sweden ( after…

Gear News, Newsfeed
Have you geared yourself up for the upcoming winter? No, we are not talking about new skis, poles or waxes. It's about mobile phones. Seriuosly, we do hope you carry a mobile phone on you every time you go skiing - safety first, as they say. Then convinience. Of course, you could get away with having any phone – and some swear it worked for them in years. But do you really want to risk having your device suddenly giving up miles…

Northug’s Personalized Bib Being Auctioned Off. Check Out Lucky Number

Newsfeed, Trivia
Trust Petter Northug to give media an excuse to write about himself – even the smallest thing presents an opportunity that we can't pass. Case in point: Northug's memento from  the Ugra ski marathon in Russia which the King of Skis had honored by his presence earlier this year. In Siberia Petter sang Happy Birthday to Sergey Ustiugov ( also present), was flogged with "banny venik" or birch tree broom in a Russian "banya" or steam sauna... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdythgLMFeQ And, last but not the least, have made a request for a personalized race bib number. Number 69. Petter Northug Jr. Now the race organizers are holding an online raffle for that personalized bib ( with a word “personalized” stressed – naturally) Either because of his fiery performances on track, or because…

IOC Suspends Second Russian Olympic Champion In One Week But Russia Gets To Keep Golden Medal

Leaders, Newsfeed
The situation with the Olympic doping in cross country skiing is getting more and more difficult to comprehend. Last week Alexander Legkov had lost his Olympic Golden medal for the 50k race thus – formally – ceding the title to the second placed Maxim Vylegzhanin, both of Russia. But not for long. Because today the IOC's Oswald Commission had disqualified Vylegzhanin as well – and then the Golden medal goes to...Ilia Chernousov of Russia, who came third. How does this bode with the allegations of the "Russian state sponsored doping program"? Was it only for certain athletes on the Russian team, but not for the others? The IOC decision appears to be based almost exclusively on  the so-called McLaren Report, which does not seem to explain or even address "the…
