Toppidrettsveka’s Aure Sprint Breaks Viewership Record On TV

Toppidrettsveka's Aure Sprint last Friday was watched by some 451.000 viewers on NRK, national public television channel. That's an absolutely whopping figure for the country with 4.2 million of adult population in 2020, with television viewership on decline everywhere in the world. And the new record for Toppidrettsveka. "The sprint in Aure was the beginning of Toppidrettsveka back in 2005: 13 athletes and 10 volunteers with a total budget of some 9000 NOK or about 800 Euros", says Harald Fladseth, the event organizer. Normally, in discussion conclusions follow arguments. Well, we want to up-end that and to start with conclusion: world's cross country skiing really has two options: Learn how Norwegians do things and effort to replicate them at home. Or just move all the top-level competitions to Norway, period. Yes, the way the Ironman World Championship is held in Hawaii - and nobody seems to have a problem with that because "Hawaii does it best" The Norwegians have honed the art of staging cross country skiing races to such extent that , putting it bluntly, races elsewhere are starting to look pale in comparison. Toppidrettsveka rollerski festival in Aure/Trondheim last week was a success. Like all the previous Toppidrettsvekas that were held since 2006. Like pretty much anything that has to do with the great sport of cross country skiing in Norway.
