Russian A-Team for 2019/20 Has 40 Athletes, More Than Any Competitor

Leaders, Newsfeed
The Russian Ski Federation has made public the national team's training groups for the season of 2019/2020. No fundamental changes - boss of the Russian skiing Elena Vyalbe & her coaches believe in internal competition within the Team Russia so for the upcoming season it will continue to be based around training groups led by Markus Cramer, Yuri Borodavko and Oleg Perevozchikov that are equal in status. Egor Sorin will carry on on leading the fourth group that is often seen as a sort of a farm-club but only because the average age of his skiers is lower than the rest. There is no official division on A and B teams. Each coach leads the team of specialists including at least one junior trainer, analyst, doctor, massage therapist, technicians etc.…

On the day of his last official race of the season and right before departing on the tour of Norway that will include him running in Kobberløpet and in Janteloppet , Alexander Bolshunov gave a television interview A 22 year old Russian sensation could be many things but he is not exactly a fan of long sit-down interviews - it took us at Dailyskier a bit of effort to convince him back in a day This time he made a rare exception for the Russian Siberian skiing-promoting project На Лыжи! ( roughly translated as Put Skis On!) and could be found & watched in full here Those not quite fluent in the language of Leo Tolstoy & Fyodor Dostoyevsky have an option of acquainting themselves with the highlights, in chronological…

Of course, Vegard Vinje is not your average weekend warrior. But a 27 year old Norwegian has a full time job outside skiing thus fully qualifying for the "amateur" title. However, after Vegard has finished 3rd last weekend in Red Bull Nordenskiöldsloppet 220k, world's longest regularly held race, the title "World's Strongest Amateur" is due. [caption id="attachment_10774" align="alignnone" width="800"] Mr. Vinje needed 12 hours and 20 seconds to finish on the podium in the race that featured names such as Andreas Nygaard, Oeyvind MoenFjeld, Hans Maenpaa, already mentioned Petter Eliassen - in other words, joy & pride of Visma Ski Classics pro-series.[/caption] We can't quite remember the case when an amateur athlete beat pros - and rushed to speak to Vegard after his unprecedented gig. - You beat Petter Eliassen…

Yep, it's a quote. Attributed to the great Australian coach Ric Charlesworth: "The interesting thing about coaching is that you have to trouble the comfortable, and comfort the troubled" Here are some of the best of trouble dispensers & comforters in the great sport of cross country skiing. [caption id="attachment_10744" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Yuri Charkovsky, a doyen of coaching corps of the world is 77. Cross Country Is B-sport, You Know?

"Cross country ( skiing) is a B-sport, you know? Thus spoke Wolfgang Pichler, quite possibly the world biathlon's most famous coach of our days ( 2'15" in interview) The German coach of the Swedish biathlon team then goes on talking about how Single Mixed Relay at the Biathlon World Champioship saw 29 nations – apparently, a record for countries' participation in any winter sport, ever. Pichler is wrong: a similar two-athlete event at Seefeld-2019, men's Team Sprint, also had same 29 entrants ( yes, that including now-infamous Austrians) . Ladies had 19. Yet Pichler is right – but a totally different way. [caption id="attachment_10696" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Biathlon prize money for last season was  7 000 000 €.For each victory on the World Cup - 15 000 € . World Championship made…
