Skiers’ Future Careers

Newsfeed, Trivia
Remember the days when top skier's career choices after retirement from big sport were largely consisting of two options: becoming a trainer or becoming a sport commentator on TV? Well, this is 2017 and there is not just more money in sport - more importantly, there are more ways to turn a hard earned fame into a rest-of-the-life career. You still can think of television, of course - except that now you have every right to think big. If you're Petter Northug , that is, and you launched and successfully operate the whole budding media empire revolving around ( but not limited to) yourself. This days & age, it pays not just to ride the wave - but to be the meanest , the baddest rider of them all, right?…

Know-How From Sweden: Executive Ski Club For True Achievers

Know-How From Sweden: Executive Ski Club For True Achievers

Training & Outfitting
Cross country skiing is changing and evolving. It's no longer the sport practiced in faraway snow wilderness by a few of "the strong silent type". We all got used in the last couple of decades to snowcat-groomed trails, warm changing rooms – even to pasta-parties at the finish line. What did not change – and never will – is that cross country skiing more than any other sport demands determination, strong will, character to overcome difficulties, ability to shut that lazy man inside yourself. Plus careful preparations and good tactics. ...Wait a second, isn't that a set of essential qualities straight out of "How to Become a Successful Executive" book? That must have crossed Swedish entrepreneur and top amateur athlete (11 Vasaloppets, 4 Marcialongas and 2 IronMan races) Fredrik Erixon's…

Toppidrettsveka Sets New Record In TV Viewership, We Effort To Figure Out Why

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
Toppidrettsveka rollerski festival in Aure/Trondheim last week was a success. Like all the previous Toppidrettsvekas that were held since 2006. Like pretty much anything that has to do with the great sport of cross country skiing in Norway. In a sign that things are going better and better, a combined domestic television audience has reached 1.5 million viewers - or 500,000 more compared with last year. That's in a country with a total population of 5.2 million. Nations fathers and concerned politicians the world over – take a notice! There must be a tight link between popularity of skiing and the fact that the Scandinavian country currently tops the rankings as the world's happiest nation. One thing, however makes this conversation slightly less straighforward and calls for a bit of…

Poll: Majority Of Norwegians No Longer Believe In Doping-Free Skiing

Leaders, Newsfeed
Only 49 percent of Norwegians believe that domestic cross-country skiers are completely doping-free according to the latest poll conducted by Ipsos for the Norway's Dagbladet newspaper This is a marked decrease of trust since the similar survey was done in 2014 by Ipsos MMI/ Dagbladet when 65 percent say that doping in domestic cross country skiing occurs "vary rarely or never". There is no big mystery as to why the public attitude in the world's most skiing country gone decidedly more sour – in the wake of asthma case against Martin Johnsrud Sundby and the doping case against Therese Johaug it would be expected. Just a quick reminder - neither admitted to taking certain medications to enhance performance, both claimed "innocence of intent" - whether the public believed them or…

Leaders, Money & Finance, Newsfeed, Travel & Mass Sport
The Blink Skifestival kicked off in Norway – four days of rollersking & summer biathlon that bring together world stars in either sports You won't find race results here ( Martin Jonsrud Sundby won - again. And so did Astrid Øyre Slind in female race) What we are after instead, is to try to analyze what could be gleaned from the success of Blink. Let's face it – as of today only the Norwegians could organize and stage a rollerskiing event of this magnitude and size. How do they do it then? - The area is Sandnes where the Blink is held is anything but a natural cross country skiing stronghold. It's located close the seashore which makes snowfalls scarce. - Blink was not always big – it's grown steady…
