A financial consultant from Sandnes near Stavanger have declared his ambition to run a cross-country skiing race at the Olympic Games next year – despite having no experience in international competitions ( he's a dedicated and fairly strong long distance skier though). Shafizadeh, according to VG.no, is now training very hard to make his dream come true. Here at the Daily Skier we have a soft spot for stories of will and determination so we have decided to take a closer look at Shafizadeh's chances of making it to Pyeongchang. ...A major difference between the FIS World Cup races and FIS World Championships – and those of the Olympic Games is difficulty of qualifying.…

Rare Breed: Meet Four-Wheel Rollerskis

Rare Breed: Meet Four-Wheel Rollerskis

Gear News, Newsfeed
Modern rollerskis come in such a vast variety of length, platform material, wheel sizes & intended use, that it would be easier to say what do they all actually have in common: two wheels attached to a frame. True? Well, not quite. There is a very rare breed called “four wheel rollerskis” - a longer platform with four wheels arranged (mostly) in a single line. In different times different manufacturers were or still are producing these exotic marvels. The reasoning behind complex and expensive creature is as follow: longer frame of four-wheeler mimics the feel of long skis better and provides what the Germans aptly call Geradeauslauf-Führung  ( directional stability) Here they are. Rolec, Switzerland Rolec's website lists Björn Daehlie Nathalie Santer, Giachem Guidon and other titans of the past…

Here’s How To Make XCSkiing Ratings Jump

...We love cross-country skiing – otherwise why would we launch this media empire webplatform dedicated to it? What we don't like is how relatively little TV coverage it gets . Because said TV coverage generates buzz, buzz translates into popularity, popularity brings bigger investments, bigger investments provide us with more places to ski and better ( and cheaper) equipment to buy. So, we have to have more xc skiing on TV in order to be able to enjoy it more. Simple, right? We take our media responsibilities seriously and have put together a list of new competition formats that could be introduced to augment those already existing ones ( see, we did not say “replace” - that would be causing a wrath of skiing purists!). If you happen to see…

https://www.facebook.com/teamsantander/videos/803652566479113/ Over 8 thousand views and dozens of comments: Team Santader has published a video where two of the team's top skiers, Andreas Nygaard and Øyvind Moen Fjeld are seen descending from 2,315m high Livigno Pass ( also known as Forcola) into the valley, located at approx. 1,800m - a vertical drop of some 500 meters. All of that on classic rollerskis - needless to say, with no breaks of any kind are present. Unlike most of Alpine skis, known for its hairpin turns, Forcola is a rather straightforward affair – it is, however, busy with car traffic this time of the year. And the speeds – on a 14 kilometer descent even on classic rollerskis still reaches 60 km/h+ Please, don't try it at home, kids! For your visual…

The name Marwe stands out in cross country skiing world. Bright yellow/black rollerskis from Finland are used by such a vast array of national skiing and biathlon teams that one would be excused in thinking that Marwe is sponsoring the whole sport. Remarkably, the opposite is true – there are no endorsement deals that became so standard in sport – just a considered choice of so many, who rely on Hyvinkää -produced rollerskis' legendary reliability and ski-like feel. While Marwe products are ubiquitous, very little is known about the company and the people who work there. The Daily Skier have decided that it wouldn't do - and got in touch with the people behind the Marwe rollerskis Meet Marwe's Sales Manager Olli Welander and Paul Fletcher, Marketing Manager. Olli represents…
