Up Close & Personal With Yelena Vyalbe: Part I

Newsfeed
...as previously explained, we here at the DailySkier are not huge fans of loooong interviews and thus nearly always making a conscious decision to split them into 2-3 parts, depending on the original length of conversation. Today, in Part 1 Yelena Vyalbe, head of the Russian XCSki Federation and manager of Team Russia ( yes, she sits on two chairs, so to speak) talks about disqualifications of the Russian skiers , relationship with sponsors and touches upon the recent Olympics ( more on that in Part 2) ... Says Vyalbe: ...I have had very mixed feelings throughout the Olympics. Was happy for our youngsters were performing so well yet I felt bad for the guys who were not allowed to the Games – especially for ( Sergey) Ustiugov and (…

Thorax: When Training Is Totally “Hyggeligt”

“...And now we go doublepoling! ...” shouts the lanky guy in red suit that says Trainer on the back – and a group of fit women and men start energetically dounblepoling uphill. Wintery Scandinavian forest lit by bright sunshine adds atmospheric touch to the event. Finally, there is a downhill section and skiers catch their breath, squeeze gels and quickly gulp drinks from plastic bottles [caption id="attachment_7193" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Hellerup is a kind of place you always wanted to raise your children in. Quiet and with wide bike lanes. That work very well for rollerskiing too[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7194" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Hellerup is also swanky. The gym featuring ThoraxTrainer room is on the left [/caption] We are in Hellerup – a fancy suburb of the Danish capital , once known mostly…

Leaders, Newsfeed
Alexander Bolshunov turned 21 less than two months ago - and that makes even Johannes Klaebo to looked like a seasoned veteran by comparison. A youngster from Bryansk, on the Russian border with Ukraine and Belarus, has become one of the Olympics' brightest stars: four races that he run - four medals. But his path to Pyeongchang's glory was anything but smooth this season [caption id="attachment_7144" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Bolshunov had a brilliant start of the season, convincingly winning 15k race at the Gällivare Premiere, beating Ustiugov, Cologna and Hellner among the others[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7140" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] This photo was taken as the Russian skiing team was listening to announcement by the IOC's President Thomas Bach that their country won't be allowed to participate in the Games under its flag, no…

Let’s Look At Who Is Running In Ladies’ Skiathlon At Olympics

Leaders, Newsfeed
On Saturday the Olympic program in cross country skiing gets underway with the ladies' 7,7/7,5 skiathlon Today we make an effort to show you some of those who will be running in that race. Let's be fair & honest: there's a rather small chance that any of them will make it to the podium or even the flower ceremony after the finish in the skiathlon race. Television cameras are unlikely to stay on them for more than a few second during the broadcast. Which is rather pity & unfair - all of them are world-class skiers. Strong, dedicated and technically accomplished. We try to fill that gap by showing you how they look on or close to the ski tracks. Enjoy!
