Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Brilliant Norwegians once again wiped the floor with the competition, winning both ladies' and men's overall World Cup titles - and taking most of the places in Top Ten And taking overall Nations Cup, naturally. Optimists would say that this time around things were not as one way as in, say, 2015–16 FIS Cross-Country World Cup when Norway took 24234 points - almost as much as the rest of the world combined. This year it was "only" 12657 to Russia's 8636 and Sweden's 7015. A progress of a kind. A word of pre-warning - you won't find here: photo & texts telling you how every Norseman ( and woman) puts skis on straight out of her/his cradle. Not because it is untrue ( and it actually isn't true - big west coast cities like Bergen and Stavanger simply…

[caption id="attachment_10519" align="aligncenter" width="1470"] Alexander Terentiev[/caption] First, sprint prodigy from Team Russia Alexander Terentiev, 19, stepped on opponent's skis nearly causing the latter one to lose the balance. Both literally - and figuratively - speaking [caption id="attachment_10518" align="aligncenter" width="1920"] Ivan Yakimushkin[/caption] The said opponent, Ivan Yakimushkin, 22 , found a novel way of responding - and overtaking - in a closely contested race. By grabbing & pulling his pole Yakimushkin, who, like Terentiev, made alreadyh several World Cup appearances for Team Russia , then accelerated and came to the finish first, while unlucky opponent finished second. Judges, somehow, have summarily failed to appreciate Yakimushkin's innovative methods and disqualified him. Later Ivan…
