Yuri Charkovsky most likely is the busiest man in the international cross-country skiing world. [caption id="attachment_15861" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Yelena Vyalbe and Yuri Charkovsky form a rock-solid team. Charkovsky is used to be Vyalbe's coach in 1990s and for the last decade is Vyalbe's closest partner and confidant [/caption] As a manager of the world largest team (the Russians have 40 skiers in the national squad plus roughly equal amount of coaches & support personel) he is in charge of all the logistics. As the de-facto team captain he's present on most of the race-related meetings with the FIS & local organizers. As a coach with decades on international experience ,he is involved in mentoring athletes. And when all of the above is said and done, he's doing media interviews (Charkovsky's…

Elena Vyalbe Becomes New Chairperson Of Russian Ski Association

Elena Vyalbe just got an important additional job. To her exisiting titles of the chairwoman of the Russian cross country ski federation (since 2010) and the senior coach of the national team (since 2012) she adds the one of a chairwoman of the whole Russian Ski Association (RSA). RSA is an umbrella organization that includes four sports federations that act rather independently: Alpine Skiing & Snowboard, Freestyle, Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined and, of course, Cross-Country Ski. Tour De Ski Tour De Force

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
Okay, short version: big money triumphed. Again. As expected. Forget for a second who actually won arguably the most important competition of the season. They are fantastic athletes, no doubt there - but that's been said a thousand times over the last day and we want to focus on the other aspect^ Just look at where they come from. In men's standings there are four Russians and four Norwegians plus Olympic champions Dario Cologna and Iivo Niskanen In women's Top 10 there are five Norwegians plus skiers from Russia, Austria, US of A and Germany. To give it spin we want to give for a purpose of this story, that Norwegian investment once again outperformed the Russian one with everybody else fighting for the crumbs. Oh, and the Swedish blue…

Skitsnack Or Making News Out Of Nothing At All

Newsfeed, Trivia
Today we tell you how to cover the ski-related news in 2019. Or, better said, to make the news. And we do it backwards. This week literally every single Russian newspaper and internet resource went with their version of the story that had pretty much same screaming headline: Swedish female skiers made fun of mass pregnant Russian rivals! /Шведские лыжницы высмеяли массово забеременевших российских соперниц. Wow! Why would they? If that was not enough for you to click immediately, there was also a sub-head along the following lines: The Swedes called Yelena Vyalbe "a woman from the old Soviet culture" Vyalbe is a true household name for the most of the Russians ( there is full-size biopic in the works, if case you forgot), but the skiing itself rarely graces…
