Power of television: world’s best will go to Lygna

Newsfeed
"....There were two good candidates in Toblach and Lygna that are both very experienced organizers. The agreement with NRK to produce the championship was what decided that it would be Lygna in Norway." That's Erik Røste, President of the Norwegian Ski Federation - quoted by the very same NRK We reported in October on Lygna and Toblach being two candidates to replace Zakopane as a host of the Junior World Ski Championships-2022. And added that the power of NRK, Norwegian public television, might be a decisive factor. NRK has experience, equipment and loyal ski-crazy audiences . What it does not have is enough money to buy media rights for top events - both the Olympics 2022 and the FIS World Cup 21/22 the Norwegian fans would have to watch elsewhere.…

You asked: King’s new boots

Gear News, Newsfeed
We get more questions about Johannes Klaebo's new boots than about all the other ski-related stuff combined. So we can't avoid the subject and decided to do a post about them. Or two. Or twenty two. Because looks matter - even in cross country skiing where many an industry captain would prefer to talk at le ngth about functionality whereas the rest of the world chooses jordans, yeezys and balenciaga not because they are hyper-functional but because they are fashionable - and also because some cool dude got them first. In this case - at least two cool dudes, as apart from Johannes , Lucas Chanavat was spotted wearing them brand-new Fischer boots too. We, frankly, don't know what makes them different from the previous interation of Speedmax boots apart…

Biathlon is about to launch Summer World Cup, that xcskiing could only envy

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
We are a cross country skiing media resource but when we spot something worth noting in biathlon - we report on that too. In this case not just worth reporting - outright enviable! Because from what we understand, the good folks of biathlon are about to launch what, effectively, amount to a Summer World Cup, featuring the world's best athletes. The IBU already has annual an Summer biathlon world championships but , for variety of reasons , it is not always attended by the leaders. [caption id="attachment_18671" align="alignnone" width="1530"] Arne Idland, sports director of Blink, is satisfied with the way things are developing in Summer biathlon [/caption] The Blink Skifesvalen, the Martin Fourcade Nordic Festival and the City Biathlon Wiesbaden are different. Creme de la creme of the planet's biathlon…

Tatyana Sorina , about her unique experience: For some our way of doing things would work, for the others absolutely not!

Tatyana Sorina and her husband Egor pave their own tracks to success. Consider this: no top female athlete in history of this sport had a child, then ascended to the top flight of international skiing within months. No one ever tried to raise a child literally in a training camp: this year alone a little Sofia did about ten of them already.Egor Sorin is widely considered to be a rising star among the international trainers - he's open, emotional, speaks very good English and generally media savvy. Tatyana grants interviews fairly rarely so we used our chance when our paths crossed in Ramsau: [caption id="attachment_18661" align="alignnone" width="1573"] A familiar sight to all international skiers in the last 20 months or so: Tatyana is training, Egor ably combines coaching and taking…

Men’s Team Sprint distance in Beijing will be shorter than previously thought – sources

Leaders, Newsfeed
The rumour mill brought as a tidbit that we wanted to share with you: FIS has decided to shorten the distance of men's Team Sprint event at the Beijing Olympics from 1850 to 1500 meters. In other words, men and women will run exactly the same distance at exactly the same course. The decision allegedly came during the recent visit to Kuyangshu Nordic Center where Olympic races will be held by a delegation led by FIS Cross-Country Race Director Pierre Mignerey. FIS in its press-release makes no mention of the route changes , but our sources tell us that's either " done deal" or " being actively debated". We on ours part applaud the decision - first, FIS has to show that it is doing something for gender equality when…
