RIP One Way

One Way as we know it is no more. An ambitious Finnish company, best known for its world-class ski poles,  used at different point in time by such greats as Martin Fourcade ,  Charlotte Kalla, Dario Cologna, Alexei Poltoranin, Ragnhild Haga to name but a few, have succumbed to the pressure of its debts and went bankrupt. Faces Of Elite Skiing. Part 1

Leaders, Newsfeed
Upon looking at the photos from the last season, a realization came: too much attention on the actual results, too little on the people behind those results A thing need to be remembered: one could be an indomitable champion - or not. But all those who made it to the World Cup or a pro-long distance team are some of the best trained humans on this planet. And some of the best looking too. Relaxed, smiling, tense, concentrated, angry, happy - their faces and body language betray emotions they feel before & after the race. So, without further ado, here are the elite skiers of 2017/2018 ( and it will be continued in Part II...Part III...then we'll see) [caption id="attachment_7506" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Ragnhild Haga concentrates before the race start in…

Why Galtür Nordic Night Race Should Be Event You Spend Your Easter Vacs At Next Year

Newsfeed, Travel & Mass Sport
At the Daily Skier we happened to believe that the best way of promoting skiing – is getting more people to watch it. In that spirit the visit to the inaugural Galtür Nordic Night Race was organized. And here are the impressions https://www.instagram.com/p/BhMCRxyh47u/ [caption id="attachment_7406" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Skiing through town? Doable![/caption]   If you do it – do it right. Paznaun valley where Galtür is located, is one fancy place, seeing steady influx of well-heeled downhill skiers throughout the winter season. ( " We don't need to advertize or share profits with online booking systems – we are more than 85% full most of the time" opens up a proprietor of one of the Galtür hotels). How is it relevant to cross country skiing? Well, directly – to bring/lay the…

November to March each year the Big Skiing Circus is on the move. Station wagons, minivans, full size vans and, top of the chain, full size, custom built tractor-trailers - all busy carrying skiers and their equipment from one European venue to the next. Some vehicles are standard, but many are custom built and, as the current ski fashion dictates, are covered with photos of the team's top skiers. Here they are, massive element of success ( or failure) in each ski team and skier's career [caption id="attachment_7363" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Team Sverige truck is among the biggest[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7366" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] ...but not as big as a massive, two-level Norwegian one[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7370" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] THE biggest vehicle in cross country skiing, however, is travelling headquarters of the Visma Ski…
