Always fun to onwatch how heroes of the recent Juniors/ U23 World championships make a transition to the Big League, testing their mettle against the leaders of the world skiing. Several of the young stars were taken to Oberstdorf recently - but either weren't started or failed to make an impact. Understandably so: when you prepare the whole season specifically for the Juniors' World, it's nay-impossibke to be in top form two weeks later - and compete against people who trained to be on their peak at the World Championships. A couple of weeks ago we talked about financial success of the Engadin ski marathon , opining that the Swiss marathon's money making capacity is second only to the Mother of all ski marathons, Vasaloppet. Sure enough, the organizers of the Swedish multi-event did the math for 2017 and have announced that the Vasaloppet-2017 generated a turnover of SEK 234.6 million. The Engadine ski marathon has confirmed yet again its stellar reputation in a very important category: how to stage a popular skiing event – and make a ton money on process. The Engadin 2017 have generated an income of CHF 6.2 million for the valley proper. Countrywide the effect of the Engadin mass race is felt even stronger: CHF 15 million was generated in business activities directly linked to the event on a turnover of CHF 33 million, according to the marathon organizers.
