Bolshunov Popped The Question! Where Are Other Stars in THAT Race?

Leaders, Newsfeed, Trivia
He popped the question! Alexander Bolshunov has beaten his chief rival yet again - and that distance shall be the longest ever. And the most pleasant too, hopefully! If might want to go back to our interview of 2018 where they talk about their feelings for each other. https://dailyskier.com/2018/10/25/bolshunov-and-zherebyateva-on-love-support-and-johannes-klaebo/ And what about Johannes? https://www.instagram.com/p/B6ixwBBpg6I/?igshid=vwu17y4n375d Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Pernille Dosvik made their relationship public in April 2018. Since then, they moved together into a newly built house ( Klaebo wins that race - Bolshunov & Zherebyateva are still working on kitting-out their family nest) and became "parents" to a cat called Stjerne or "Star". A fitting name and another one-up on the Russian rivals, who still pose on photos with their parents' dogs. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-4kE-MAz_-/?igshid=ybcoaxx0eken Wade Poplawski, Jessie Diggins’ Boyfriend is…

Russians Staying Home

The European Union have decided to keep the borders closed for the citizens of the countries where COVID-19 infection numbers were recently / are high for the time being. That includes the United States - and Russia. Which means the Russian skiers have to cancel their pencil-booked training camps in Europe. In the last few decades Team Russia traditionally held most of their camps either in the Alps or in Scandinavia. Even a traditional yearly roll-call where all the national teams, including juniors, gather was held in Tehvandi-Otepää ,Estonia. Team Russia is divided into four independent training groups whereas duration/intensity/ location of a camp is largely determined by coaching philosophy of a specific coach: Yuri Borodavko for Alex Bolshunov and Natalia Nepryaeva, Markus Cramer for Sergei Ustiugov and Gleb Retivykh…

Okay, short version: big money triumphed. Again. As expected. Forget for a second who actually won arguably the most important competition of the season. They are fantastic athletes, no doubt there - but that's been said a thousand times over the last day and we want to focus on the other aspect^ Just look at where they come from. In men's standings there are four Russians and four Norwegians plus Olympic champions Dario Cologna and Iivo Niskanen In women's Top 10 there are five Norwegians plus skiers from Russia, Austria, US of A and Germany. To give it spin we want to give for a purpose of this story, that Norwegian investment once again outperformed the Russian one with everybody else fighting for the crumbs. Oh, and the Swedish blue…

Russians Reveal New Racing Suits – We Love Them And So Will You

Gear News, Newsfeed
That time of the year again: the teams start to reveal their new racing suits for the upcoming season. Looks like the Russians beat everyone else this year - and their new suit is a bomb! ...Last year the Russian apparel giant Bosco di Ciliegi (yeah, with very Italian name - welcome to the new globalized world) stepped in at the very last moment as Adidas decided to stop sponsoring all Nordic sports. The first attempt wasn't a failure - in fact many, ourself included, liked that Soviet Constructivism design of the Russian suits 2018/19. But just-revealed successor, the 2019/20 racing piece (or two - depending on your preference) is a quite a step forward nonetheless. Pictures speak for themselves, but we shall add a few words: - The new…
