Don't take it from us - take it from Petter Northug Jr. himself: "Too bad we did not have this kind of competitions when I've started my career. The Supersprint is a revolution in skiing and should become an Olympic sport!" If the opinion of the world's greatest skier of this century haven't convinced you - here are some photos that might [caption id="attachment_10964" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Stars of traditional skiing on a starting grid. Name recognition helps to attract attention. Rivalries and mutual public dissing helps X 2. Just ask Petter and Kalle here [/caption] [caption id="attachment_10965" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Supersprint works the same way 100m works in athletics: 5 minutes of athlete presentation, 10 (okay - 13 ) seconds of actual race, then another 5 minutes for laps of honor…

Northug’s Janteloppet: See Who Was There

Newsfeed, Trivia
The inaugural edition of Janteloppet has come and gone - and that was quite something! Do not take it from the easily impressed media ( like us) - take it from normally reserved Natalia Nepryaeva: "Как же нам было круто ? Это было идеальное завершение сезона ?" Or "It was so awesome! The ideal ending of the season" The Norwegian race-meets-party shows where the cross country skiing needs to go were to compete and win in people's attention against others, "cooler" sports. Over the next week we will do our best here to convey what was so "awesome" about Janteloppet. But the first story is as simple as it is visual - see who graced the mountaintop of Hafjell- Øyer with their presence. And when we said "graced" - on…

Russian A-Team for 2019/20 Has 40 Athletes, More Than Any Competitor

The Russian Ski Federation has made public the national team's training groups for the season of 2019/2020. No fundamental changes - boss of the Russian skiing Elena Vyalbe & her coaches believe in internal competition within the Team Russia so for the upcoming season it will continue to be based around training groups led by Markus Cramer, Yuri Borodavko and Oleg Perevozchikov that are equal in status. Egor Sorin will carry on on leading the fourth group that is often seen as a sort of a farm-club but only because the average age of his skiers is lower than the rest. There is no official division on A and B teams. Each coach leads the team of specialists including at least one junior trainer, analyst, doctor, massage therapist, technicians etc.…

Competition Season is NOT Over For Johaug, Kalla, Iversen etc

Newsfeed, Trivia
How do you reckon the Norwegians turn their stars of skiing into " Stars. Period"? Easy - by having them on television screens as much as possible. And when there is no snow - well, there's always something else. Where there's a will, there's a way! Therese Johaug, Emil Iversen and - hold it - Petter Northug himself are currently on Rhodes competing against Charlotte Kalla and Calle Halfvarsson. Yep, on the Greek island of Rhodes. [caption id="attachment_10890" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Therese is first on a climb. No surprises there [/caption] Because that's where Norway's top broadcaster TV2 is currently filming an adventure show. Details are, predictably, kept under wraps but the show, named Landskampen, appears to be a cross between the Wipeout and the Fort Boyard. With a distinct difference…
