Best Portraits Of 2018. Part 2

Newsfeed, Trivia
..While putting together a previous story on the subject it quickly became clear that there are too many good pictures worth publishing from the outgoing year. Almost all were taken before, after or outside training & competing ( there are a few exceptions). We do see it as our role as online media to show skiers as humans, as personalities, rather than medal-winning machines. Enjoy - and tell us what you think. …Face Is Mirror Of Mind…

…Face Is Mirror Of Mind…

Newsfeed, Trivia
"The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart" - thus allegedly spoke Saint Jerome ( who, unlike many other Christian saints, wasn't butchered by some savages but lived long and, by all accounts, rather happy life) Armed with that time-tested wisdom, we offer you today a collection of photos taken throughout the year of 2018 at different venues with one thing in common: faces of athletes Concentration, anticipation, hope, elation, disappointment, happiness - or simple "leave me all alone" - it's all there. We made no distinction between famed Olympic champions and ( yet) relatively unknown skiers - facial expression was something that mattered. Certain photos need explaining of circumstances under which they were taken - other are self-explaining. Sometimes…

Supersprint Is Coming To Continental Europe

Newsfeed, Travel & Mass Sport
Dear cross country skiing purists - please read no more ( you, likely, stopped reading anyway, upon seeing the title of this story). Yes, we do realize the competition format we shall be talking about here is a far cry from the sport of tough woodcutters, gliding through forests using time-tested diagonal style. Sorry. To all the others: rejoice! The fastest growing competition format in cross country skiing has crossed the seas and is coming to Continental Europe: Say hello to the first ever König Ludwig Lauf Superspint If you are still a tad fuzzy as to what it is - here's a vid explaining it all & featuring the format's biggest international star, Ludvig Søgnen Jensen a.k.a Ludde. Again, we are, probably, preaching to converted here, but in Norway…

Hans Hubinger , Legendary Designer Of Fischer Skis, Recommends

Gear News, Leaders, Newsfeed
Hans Hubinger is a legend. The only reason he's not a household name compared to, say, Marit Bjorgen or Dario Cologna, is the fact that in skiing names of equipment designers are not very well published & advertized. Something to learn from Formula 1 here, really. Anyway, we are here to fill that gap. Here's Hans' ( very abridged) resume: - Bridge-building engineer by training, has joined Fischer Sports in 1986. Yes, folks – that's 32 years ago! - Had participated in pretty much every Fischer skis' development & design including such masterpieces ahead of its time as Fischer Revolution of 1990s - Originator and chief designer of Speedmax and its Cold Base Bonding technology. BTW, Bjorgen and Cologna mentioned above won most their golds on Speedmaxes. [caption id="attachment_9222" align="aligncenter"…
